So what is Breathwork, really?

People often ask me, “So what actually is breathwork?”

I could say it’s a tool for emotional healing, a nervous system reset, or even a path to spiritual awakening, and all would be true.

But for me, it started with a single moment that cracked something open, something that triggered a desire to go further into a process that we do everyday without even a consideration of how powerful it can be and to what it can actually do for the mind and body.

In my first session, I remember arriving at the location with no idea whatsoever about what to expect, as up until that point, breathwork to me was based around controlling the breath for cold immersion, something the famous Wim Hof is renowned for.

I remember lying down for my first holotropic breathwork session, thinking to myself, just go with it, and if nothing happens at least I’ve managed to relax for 90mins and taken some time for myself, which at that point in my life, wasn’t a bad thing actually!

After we started, I followed the guidance from the facilitator, started to relax into the music that was filling the room. I felt energy moving through my body like a current. My hands started to curl involuntarily, legs started to stiffen, the feeling of dropping through the floor became more intense, the body started trembling and a feeling of being out of body was very surreal.

I wasn’t afraid. In fact, I felt a kind of complete stillness and relaxation. I had two visions which I won’t go into here, but given what I had just gone through personally, this was absolutely meant for me at that exact point in time.

That session became a doorway and started an urge to go deeper and find out as much as I could about breathwork and conscious connected breathing patterns,

Through the breathwork training I’ve gone through, I’ve come to understand the multiple layers within us that can be accessed and helped with the power of the breath. I’ve learnt so much about how our bodies can heal and help ourselves and met some very awesome people along the way. And also uncovered a deeper connection to myself than I ever thought possible.

Breathwork isn’t just breathing. It’s remembering. A return, so to speak.

It’s the simplest, most profound tool we have, that we completely take for granted and it’s always with us.

If you’re curious, just start with a single session.

Come with no expectations, just a willingness to breathe and feel.
